In this diet we choose food only from three groups: food of animal protein, legumes and vegetables. According to experts, this is because the diet is very effective.
Research results have shown that a strict diet, which is dominated by carbohydrates in human subjects, results in weakness, mental instability and perpetual “hunger”, which can lead to an obsession with food. To avoid the negative effects of such diets, they reduced the proportion of carbohydrates in the diet. The result was that people felt a lack of energy, which was due to insufficient caloric intake (½ cup of rice has 300 calories, while only ½ cup spinach, 15 calories). This is why experts included in the diet as the basic group food, legumes, as these give the body the needed calories and proteins. A diet based on vegetables and proteins helps an individual to lose weight, while his physical and mental health remains stable.
Also, results of a survey conducted by John Yudkin showed that the test persons during a diet in which proteins were predominant (but not only animal but also vegetable origin) were in good mental and physical health and spontaneously without feeling deprived; eat just enough to have felt satiety. Research has also shown that persons who have diets in accordance with the diet based on proteins and vegetables, compared with a diet in which the dominance of carbohydrates, lost body weight faster, despite the same or even more calories value meals.

On the diet will be enthusiastic all who love eggs, lean meat, legumes and vegetables. Small range of food is both good and bad side of this diet, because we can get bored to eat the same dishes. It helps “free” Saturday, when you can have dishes that are otherwise prohibited. The seemingly sinful day, in fact, accelerate weight loss. The body that is deprived from calories in for a long time, switch to the saving program, which is why the weight loss slows down. With a free Saturday we prevent the body to slow down the metabolism and thus weight loss.
Rule number 1: No “white” carbs
Avoid all carbohydrates, which are or may be white or refined. Therefore are forbidden the following foods: bread, rice, cereals, potatoes, pasta and bread crumbs fried foods. Briefly repeat – do not eat anything that is white and made up of carbohydrates!
Rule number 2: Always eat only a few foods that can be constructed in a variety of dishes
The most successful are people, which keep the diet with only few meals, consisting of a small range of foods. Foods which are combined together in a few basic dishes are:
Proteins: Egg whites with one whole egg chicken breast or thigh lean beef, pork
Legumes: lentils black beans pinto beans
Vegetables: spinach, asparagus, peas mixed vegetables (white and red carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower …)
It is essential that you can eat as much as you want, but only from authorized food groups, meals must be simple. Food on a plate can take 1/3 from each group. From the food you put together 3 or 4 different dishes and they repeat over and over again. We eat four times a day (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner).
Examples of servings:
- 3 egg omelets and an egg, black beans and mixed vegetables
- natural beef steak, pinto beans, mixed vegetables and guacamole
- grilled steak roast beef, lentils and mixed vegetables
- Free Saturday, for example, you enjoy tuna pizza with tomato, mozzarella, olives and onions.
Rule number 3: Do not drink calories!
During the diet you can drink only water and unsweetened tea and coffee (without milk or cream!). We cannot drink milk, juice or carbonated drinks!
Rule 4: Free Saturday
On Saturdays you can eat what you heart desires (which of course does not mean that we sleep all day on the couch and get full of food). You can also eat chocolate and ice cream.
